What is a Plasma Screen?
A plasma screen is a type of flat panel display which is common in televisons over 32" in size. The screen is made up of a number of very small cells between two panels of glass which hold a mixture of noble gases.
The gas in the cells is electrically turned into a plasma which then excites phosphors to emit light.
As anybody with a plasma screen will know, they tend to attract dust and are prone to finger marks and smears when touched. In order to get the most out of your plasma screen keep it in good condition by cleaning on a regular basis.

Plasma screen cleaning procedure
We have detailed our recommended approach to cleaning your plasma screen below:
- Turn your plasma screen off and unplug from the mains
- Allow the screen enough time to cool down before cleaning
- Remove any excess surface dust from the screen with a duster or soft cloth prior to cleaning
- Spray the cleaning solution onto a clean, soft microfiber cloth and then clean the surface of the screen taking care not to apply too much pressure
- For stubborn marks a second application may be necessary
- Ensure that any excess liquid or moisture is removed from the screen
Always double check the manufacturer's specific instructions on how to clean your equipment. Most manufacturers have different recommended methods for cleaning.
What should I avoid doing?
Plasma screens are made from very fragile substances. Take care when moving the screen and during cleaning. Applying too much or uneven pressure to a plasma screen can cause damage. Take care to apply pressure as evenly as possible to avoid this.
Do not use abrasive materials on the screen. This can damage the surface of the screen by scratching it. Always use a lint-free cleaning cloth.
Try to avoid cleaning products that are alcohol or ammonia based. Only use cleaning products specifically manufactured for the cleaning of plasma screens.
