What is a TFT Screen?
A TFT (Thin Film Transistor) screen is a type of LCD screen that uses TFT technology to enhance image quality. The vast majority of desktop PCs and laptops now come with some form of LCD screen instead of the old style CRT monitor.
As anybody with a TFT screen will know, they tend to attract dust and are prone to finger marks and smears when touched. In order to get the most out of your TFT screen keep it in good condition by cleaning on a regular basis.

TFT screen cleaning procedure
We have detailed our recommended approach to cleaning your TFT screen below:
- Turn your TFT screen off and unplug from the mains
- Allow the screen enough time to cool down before cleaning
- Remove any excess surface dust from the screen with a duster or soft cloth prior to cleaning
- Spray the cleaning solution onto a clean, soft microfiber cloth and then clean the surface of the screen taking care not to apply too much pressure
- For stubborn marks a second application may be necessary
- Ensure that any excess liquid or moisture is removed from the screen
Always double check the manufacturer's specific instructions on how to clean your equipment. Most manufacturers have different recommended methods for cleaning.
What should I avoid doing?
TFT screens are not made of glass. Applying too much or uneven pressure to a TFT screen can cause damage to the sensitive crystals behind the protective layer. Take care to apply pressure as evenly as possible to avoid this.
Do not use abrasive materials on the screen. This can damage the protective layer by scratching the surface of the screen. Always use a lint-free cleaning cloth.
Try to avoid cleaning products that are alcohol or ammonia based. Only use cleaning products specifically manufactured for the cleaning of TFT screens.
